"Pilot" Moscow Animation Studio is an acknowledged leader of the Russian animation, the first non-state film studio in Russia.
Studio was based by Honoured Art Worker of Russia, film-maker Alexander Tatarsky. Throughout many years he was the president and art director of "Pilot" Moscow Animation Studio.
For the twenty years of its existence ,"Pilot" Moscow Animation Studio received more than 600 awards at the most prestigious international film festivals. Among these are 2 Oscar nominations, "Golden Palm Branch" at Cannes International Film Festival, 3 "Nika" awards (which is the Russian analogue of the American "Oscar"), a "Teffi" award (analogue of the American "Emmy"), several Grand- Prix at the leading world class "A" festivals, and this is not the full list.
The main line of studio activity is animation production (full animation) in any technology (classical and computer animation, combined technology, combination of live-action characters and computer ones in the real-time mode, etc.)
The "Pilot" studio works also in computer game development and internet applications. 3 computer games were issued based on a popular animation film of the studio. The artists of the studio create internet comics and animation.
The unique technologies are mastered and the whole generation of the outstanding directors and artists is brought up at the studio.

Tatarsky was born in 1950 in Kiev. He graduated from Kiev State Theater and Cinematography Institute along with Specialized Animation School. He has been working in animation since 1968. Since 1980 he worked as film director in animation studio of "Gosteleradio" (Moscow). In 1988, Tatarsky founded Pilot Studio as the president.
Many of his films including "The investigation is Carried Out by Koloboks" (1989), as well as "Lift 1-5" microfilms serials have been awarded prizes both in All-Union and International Animation Festivals. Since 1989 Tatarsky had worked as organiser and teacher in "Pilot" Animation Studio being as well "Pilot" Studio President.
Tatarsky bears the title of Secretary of the Russian Union of Filmmakers, being also Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation, Russian State Prize Winner, Member of the All-Russian Academy of Cinematic Arts. Animation world was saddened by his sudden passing in July 2007.
